مِّنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ |

| تعرج الملائكة والروح إليه في يوم كان مقداره خمسين ألف سنة
تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ |

| Yusuf Ali | The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years:

| Words | |تعرج - Ascend| الملائكة - the Angels| والروح - and the Spirit| إليه - to Him| في - in| يوم - a Day,| كان - [is]| مقداره - its measure| خمسين - (is) fifty| ألف - thousand| سنة - year(s).| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | اس (کے عرش) کی طرف فرشتے اور روح الامین عروج کرتے ہیں ایک دن میں، جس کا اندازہ (دنیوی حساب سے) پچاس ہزار برس کا ہے٭، ٭ فِی یَومٍ اگر وَاقِعٍ کا صلہ ہو تو معنی ہوگا کہ جس دن (یومِ قیامت) کو عذاب واقع ہوگا اس کا دورانیہ ٥٠ ہزار برس کے قریب ہے۔ اور اگر یہ تَعرُجُ کا صلہ ہو تو معنی ہوگا کہ ملائکہ اور اَرواحِ مومنین جو عرشِ اِلٰہی کی طرف عروج کرتی ہیں ان کے عروج کی رفتار ٥٠ ہزار برس یومیہ ہے، وہ پھر بھی کتنی مدت میں منزلِ مقصود تک پہنچتے ہیں۔ واﷲ أعلم بالصواب۔ (یہاں سے نوری سال (لاّّّئٹ ائیر) کے تصور کا اِستنباط ہوتا ہے۔) |

[70:5] | Faisbir sabran jameelan
| فاصبر صبرا جميلا
فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا |

| Yusuf Ali | Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment).

| إنهم يرونه بعيدا
إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا |

وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا |

| يوم تكون السماء كالمهل
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ |

| Yusuf Ali | The Day that the sky will be like molten brass,

| وتكون الجبال كالعهن
وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ |

| Yusuf Ali | And the mountains will be like wool,

| Words | |وتكون - And will be| الجبال - the mountains| كالعهن - like wool,| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور پہاڑ (دُھنکی ہوئی) رنگین اُون کی طرح ہو جائیں گے، |

[70:10] | Wala yas-alu hameemun hameeman
| ولا يسأل حميم حميما
وَلَا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا |

| Yusuf Ali | And no friend will ask after a friend,

| Words | |ولا - And not| يسأل - will ask| حميم - a friend| حميما - (about) a friend.| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور کوئی دوست کسی دوست کا پرساں نہ ہوگا، |

[70:11] | Yubassaroonahum yawaddu almujrimu lawyaftadee min AAathabi yawmi-ithin bibaneehi
| يبصرونهم يود المجرم لو يفتدي من عذاب يومئذ ببنيه
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ |

| Yusuf Ali | Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children,

| Words | |يبصرونهم - They will be made to see each other.| يود - Would wish| المجرم - the criminal| لو - if| يفتدي - he (could be) ransomed| من - from| عذاب - (the) punishment| يومئذ - (of) that Day| ببنيه - by his children,| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | (حالانکہ) وہ (ایک دوسرے کو) دکھائے جا رہے ہوں گے، مجرم آرزو کرے گا کہ کاش! اس دن کے عذاب (سے رہائی) کے بدلہ میں اپنے بیٹے دے دے، |

[70:12] | Wasahibatihi waakheehi
| وصاحبته وأخيه
وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ |

| وفصيلته التي تؤويه
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْوِيهِ |

[70:14] | Waman fee al-ardi jameeAAan thummayunjeehi
| ومن في الأرض جميعا ثم ينجيه
وَمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ |

| Yusuf Ali | And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him:

| Words | |ومن - And whoever| في - (is) on| الأرض - the earth| جميعا - all,| ثم - then| ينجيه - it (could) save him.| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جتنے لوگ بھی زمین میں ہیں، سب کے سب (اپنی ذات کے لئے بدلہ کر دے)، پھر یہ (فدیہ) اُسے (اللہ کے عذاب سے) بچا لے، |

[70:15] | Kalla innaha latha
| كلا إنها لظى
كَلَّا إِنَّهَا لَظَى |

| Yusuf Ali | By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!-

| نزاعة للشوى
نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَى |

| تدعو من أدبر وتولى
تَدْعُواْ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّى |

| Yusuf Ali | Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right).

| وجمع فأوعى
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَى |

| Yusuf Ali | And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)!

[70:19] | Inna al-insana khuliqa halooAAan
| إن الإنسان خلق هلوعا
إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا |

| Yusuf Ali | Truly man was created very impatient;-

| إذا مسه الشر جزوعا
إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا |

| Yusuf Ali | Fretful when evil touches him;

| وإذا مسه الخير منوعا
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا |

| Yusuf Ali | And niggardly when good reaches him;-

| إلا المصلين
إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّينَ |

[70:23] | Allatheena hum AAala salatihimda-imoona
| الذين هم على صلاتهم دائمون
الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Those who remain steadfast to their prayer;

[70:24] | Waallatheena fee amwalihimhaqqun maAAloomun
| والذين في أموالهم حق معلوم
وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ |

| Yusuf Ali | And those in whose wealth is a recognised right.

| Words | |والذين - And those who| في - in| أموالهم - their wealth| حق - (is) a right| معلوم - known,| |

[70:25] | Lilssa-ili waalmahroomi
| للسائل والمحروم
لِّلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ |

| Yusuf Ali | For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking);

| Words | |للسائل - For the one who asks| والمحروم - and the deprived,| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | مانگنے والے اور نہ مانگنے والے محتاج کا، |

[70:26] | Waallatheena yusaddiqoonabiyawmi alddeeni
| والذين يصدقون بيوم الدين
وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ |

| Yusuf Ali | And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment;

| Words | |والذين - And those who| يصدقون - accept (the) truth| بيوم - (of the) Day| الدين - (of) the Judgment,| |

[70:27] | Waallatheena hum min AAathabirabbihim mushfiqoona
| والذين هم من عذاب ربهم مشفقون
وَالَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,-

| Words | |والذين - And those who| هم - [they]| من - of| عذاب - (the) punishment| ربهم - (of) their Lord| مشفقون - (are) fearful -| |

[70:28] | Inna AAathaba rabbihim ghayru ma/moonin
| إن عذاب ربهم غير مأمون
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ |

| Yusuf Ali | For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;-
|
| Words | |إن - Indeed,| عذاب - (the) punishment| ربهم - (of) your Lord| غير - (is) not| مأمون - to be felt secure (of) -| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | بے شک ان کے رب کا عذاب ایسا نہیں جس سے بے خوف ہوا جائے، |

[70:29] | Waallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoona
| والذين هم لفروجهم حافظون
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | And those who guard their chastity,

| Words | |والذين - And those who| هم - [they]| لفروجهم - their modesty| حافظون - (are) guardians,| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور وہ لوگ جو اپنی شرم گاہوں کی حفاظت کرتے ہیں، |

[70:30] | Illa AAala azwajihim awma malakat aymanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maloomeena
| إلا على أزواجهم أو ما ملكت أيمانهم فإنهم غير ملومين
إِلَّا عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed,
|
| Words | |إلا - Except| على - from| أزواجهم - their spouses| أو - or| ما - what| ملكت - they possess| أيمانهم - rightfully| فإنهم - then indeed, they| غير - (are) not| ملومين - blameworthy,| |
