ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِيْنَ |

| Yusuf Ali | This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah;

| الذين يؤمنون بالغيب ويقيمون الصلاة ومما رزقناهم ينفقون
الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّـلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Who believe in the Unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them;

[2:4] | Waallatheena yu/minoona bimaonzila ilayka wama onzila min qablika wabial-akhiratihum yooqinoona
| والذين يؤمنون بما أنزل إليك وما أنزل من قبلك وبالآخرة هم يوقنون
وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ وَبِالآخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | And who believe in the Revelation sent to thee, and sent before thy time, and (in their hearts) have the assurance of the Hereafter.

[2:5] | Ola-ika AAala hudan minrabbihim waola-ika humu almuflihoona
| أولئك على هدى من ربهم وأولئك هم المفلحون
أُوْلَـئِكَ عَلَى هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | They are on (true) guidance, from their Lord, and it is these who will prosper.

| إن الذين كفروا سواء عليهم أأنذرتهم أم لم تنذرهم لا يؤمنون
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe.
|
| Words | |إن - Indeed,| الذين - those who| كفروا - disbelieve[d],| سواء - (it) is same| عليهم - to them| أأنذرتهم - whether you warn them| أم - or| لم - not| تنذرهم - you warn them,| لا - not| يؤمنون - they believe.| |

| ختم الله على قلوبهم وعلى سمعهم وعلى أبصارهم غشاوة ولهم عذاب عظيم
خَتَمَ اللّهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهمْ وَعَلَى سَمْعِهِمْ وَعَلَى أَبْصَارِهِمْ غِشَاوَةٌ وَّلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ |

| Yusuf Ali | Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they (incur).
|

| ومن الناس من يقول آمنا بالله وباليوم الآخر وما هم بمؤمنين
وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَّقُولُ آمَنَّا بِاللّهِ وَبِالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤْمِنِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Of the people there are some who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day;" but they do not (really) believe.
|
| Words | |ومن - And of| الناس - the people| من - (are some) who| يقول - say,| آمنا - "We believed| بالله - in Allah| وباليوم - and in the Day| الآخر - [the] Last,"| وما - but not| هم - they| بمؤمنين - (are) believers (at all).| |

[2:9] | YukhadiAAoona Allaha waallatheenaamanoo wama yakhdaAAoona illa anfusahum wamayashAAuroona
| يخادعون الله والذين آمنوا وما يخدعون إلا أنفسهم وما يشعرون
يُخَادِعُونَ اللّهَ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلاَّ أَنفُسَهُم وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Fain would they deceive Allah and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves, and realise (it) not!
|
| Words | |يخادعون - They seek to deceive| الله - Allah| والذين - and those who| آمنوا - believe[d],| وما - and not| يخدعون - they deceive| إلا - except| أنفسهم - themselves,| وما - and not| يشعرون - they realize (it).| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | وہ اللہ کو (یعنی رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو)٭ اور ایمان والوں کو دھوکہ دینا چاہتے ہیں مگر (فی الحقیقت) وہ اپنے آپ کو ہی دھوکہ دے رہے ہیں اور انہیں اس کا شعور نہیں ہے، ٭ اس مقام پر مضاف محذوف ہے جو کہ رسول ہے یعنی یُخٰدِعُونَ اﷲَ کہہ کر مراد یُخٰدِعُونَ رَسُولَ اﷲِ لیا گیا ہے۔ اکثر ائمہ مفسرین نے یہ معنی بیان کیا ہے۔ بطور حوالہ ملاحظہ فرمائیں (تفسیر القرطبی، البیضاوی، البغوی، النسفی، الکشاف، المظھری، زاد المسیر، الخازن وغیرھم)۔ |

[2:10] | Fee quloobihim maradun fazadahumuAllahu maradan walahum AAathabun aleemun bimakanoo yakthiboona
| في قلوبهم مرض فزادهم الله مرضا ولهم عذاب أليم بما كانوا يكذبون
فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ فَزَادَهُمُ اللّهُ مَرَضاً وَلَهُم عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْذِبُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease: And grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).

[2:11] | Wa-itha qeela lahum latufsidoo fee al-ardi qaloo innama nahnumuslihoona
| وإذا قيل لهم لا تفسدوا في الأرض قالوا إنما نحن مصلحون
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لاَ تُفْسِدُواْ فِي الأَرْضِ قَالُواْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we only Want to make peace!"

[2:12] | Ala innahum humu almufsidoona walakinla yashAAuroona
| ألا إنهم هم المفسدون ولكن لا يشعرون
أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَشْعُرُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not.
|
| Words | |ألا - Beware,| إنهم - indeed they| هم - themselves| المفسدون - (are) the ones who spread corruption,| ولكن - [and] but| لا - not| يشعرون - they realize (it).| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | آگاہ ہو جاؤ! یہی لوگ (حقیقت میں) فساد کرنے والے ہیں مگر انہیں (اس کا) احساس تک نہیں، |

[2:13] | Wa-itha qeela lahum aminoo kamaamana alnnasu qaloo anu/minu kamaamana alssufahao ala innahum humu alssufahaowalakin la yaAAlamoona
| وإذا قيل لهم آمنوا كما آمن الناس قالوا أنؤمن كما آمن السفهاء ألا إنهم هم السفهاء ولكن لا يعلمون
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ آمِنُواْ كَمَا آمَنَ النَّاسُ قَالُواْ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَا آمَنَ السُّفَهَاءُ أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ السُّفَهَاءُ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَعْلَمُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know.

| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب ان سے کہا جاتا ہے کہ (تم بھی) ایمان لاؤ جیسے (دوسرے) لوگ ایمان لے آئے ہیں، تو کہتے ہیں: کیا ہم بھی (اسی طرح) ایمان لے آئیں جس طرح (وہ) بیوقوف ایمان لے آئے، جان لو! بیوقوف (درحقیقت) وہ خود ہیں لیکن انہیں (اپنی بیوقوفی اور ہلکے پن کا) علم نہیں، |

[2:14] | Wa-itha laqoo allatheena amanooqaloo amanna wa-itha khalaw ilashayateenihim qaloo inna maAAakum innamanahnu mustahzi-oona
| وإذا لقوا الذين آمنوا قالوا آمنا وإذا خلوا إلى شياطينهم قالوا إنا معكم إنما نحن مستهزئون
وَإِذَا لَقُواْ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ قَالُواْ آمَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْا إِلَى شَيَاطِيـْنِهِمْ قَالُواْ إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ |

| Yusuf Ali | When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: "We are really with you: We (were) only jesting."

| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب وہ (منافق) اہل ایمان سے ملتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں: ہم (بھی) ایمان لے آئے ہیں، اور جب اپنے شیطانوں سے تنہائی میں ملتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں: ہم یقیناً تمہارے ساتھ ہیں، ہم (مسلمانوں کا تو) محض مذاق اڑاتے ہیں، |

[2:15] | Allahu yastahzi-o bihim wayamudduhumfee tughyanihim yaAAmahoona
| الله يستهزئ بهم ويمدهم في طغيانهم يعمهون
اللّهُ يَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِمْ وَيَمُدُّهُمْ فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Allah will throw back their mockery on them, and give them rope in their trespasses; so they will wander like blind ones (To and fro).

| Words | |الله - Allah| يستهزئ - mocks| بهم - at them,| ويمدهم - and prolongs them| في - in| طغيانهم - their transgression,| يعمهون - they wander blindly.| |

[2:16] | Ola-ika allatheena ishtarawooalddalalata bialhuda famarabihat tijaratuhum wama kanoomuhtadeena
| أولئك الذين اشتروا الضلالة بالهدى فما ربحت تجارتهم وما كانوا مهتدين
أُوْلَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرَوُاْ الضَّلاَلَةَ بِالْهُدَى فَمَا رَبِحَت تِّجَارَتُهُمْ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُهْتَدِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | These are they who have bartered Guidance for error: But their traffic is profitless, and they have lost true direction,
|
| Words | |أولئك - Those| الذين - (are) the ones who| اشتروا - bought| الضلالة - [the] astraying| بالهدى - for [the] guidance.| فما - So not| ربحت - profited| تجارتهم - their commerce| وما - and not| كانوا - were they| مهتدين - guided-ones.| |

[2:17] | Mathaluhum kamathali allatheeistawqada naran falamma adaat ma hawlahuthahaba Allahu binoorihim watarakahum fee thulumatinla yubsiroona
| مثلهم كمثل الذي استوقد نارا فلما أضاءت ما حوله ذهب الله بنورهم وتركهم في ظلمات لا يبصرون
مَثَلُهُمْ كَمَثَلِ الَّذِي اسْتَوْقَدَ نَاراً فَلَمَّا أَضَاءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُ ذَهَبَ اللّهُ بِنُورِهِمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي ظُلُمَاتٍ لاَّ يُبْصِرُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Their similitude is that of a man who kindled a fire; when it lighted all around him, Allah took away their light and left them in utter darkness. So they could not see.

| Tahir ul Qadri | ان کی مثال ایسے شخص کی مانند ہے جس نے (تاریک ماحول میں) آگ جلائی اور جب اس نے گرد و نواح کو روشن کر دیا تو اللہ نے ان کا نور سلب کر لیا اور انہیں تاریکیوں میں چھوڑ دیا اب وہ کچھ نہیں دیکھتے، |

[2:18] | Summun bukmun AAumyun fahum layarjiAAoona
| صم بكم عمي فهم لا يرجعون
صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لاَ يَرْجِعُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Deaf, dumb, and blind, they will not return (to the path).

[2:19] | Aw kasayyibin mina alssama-ifeehi thulumatun waraAAdun wabarqunyajAAaloona asabiAAahum fee athanihim mina alssawaAAiqihathara almawti waAllahu muheetunbialkafireena
| أو كصيب من السماء فيه ظلمات ورعد وبرق يجعلون أصابعهم في آذانهم من الصواعق حذر الموت والله محيط بالكافرين
أَوْ كَصَيِّبٍ مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ فِيهِ ظُلُمَاتٌ وَّرَعْدٌ وَّبَرْقٌ يَجْعَلُونَ أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِم مِّنَ الصَّوَاعِقِ حَذَرَ الْمَوْتِ وَاللّهُ مُحِيطٌ بِالْكَافِرِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Or (another similitude) is that of a rain-laden cloud from the sky: In it are zones of darkness, and thunder and lightning: They press their fingers in their ears to keep out the stunning thunder-clap, the while they are in terror of death. But Allah is ever round the rejecters of Faith!

| Tahir ul Qadri | یا ان کی مثال اس بارش کی سی ہے جو آسمان سے برس رہی ہے جس میں اندھیریاں ہیں اور گرج اور چمک (بھی) ہے تو وہ کڑک کے باعث موت کے ڈر سے اپنے کانوں میں انگلیاں ٹھونس لیتے ہیں، اور اللہ کافروں کو گھیرے ہوئے ہے، |

[2:20] | Yakadu albarqu yakhtafu absarahumkullama adaa lahum mashaw feehi wa-itha athlamaAAalayhim qamoo walaw shaa Allahu lathahababisamAAihim waabsarihim inna Allaha AAalakulli shay-in qadeerun
| يكاد البرق يخطف أبصارهم كلما أضاء لهم مشوا فيه وإذا أظلم عليهم قاموا ولو شاء الله لذهب بسمعهم وأبصارهم إن الله على كل شيء قدير
يَكَادُ الْبَرْقُ يَخْطَفُ أَبْصَارَهُمْ كُلَّمَا أَضَاءَ لَهُم مَّشَوْاْ فِيهِ وَإِذَا أَظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَامُواْ وَلَوْ شَاء اللّهُ لَذَهَبَ بِسَمْعِهِمْ وَأَبْصَارِهِمْ إِنَّ اللَّه عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ |

| Yusuf Ali | The lightning all but snatches away their sight; every time the light (Helps) them, they walk therein, and when the darkness grows on them, they stand still. And if Allah willed, He could take away their faculty of hearing and seeing; for Allah hath power over all things.

| Tahir ul Qadri | یوں لگتا ہے کہ بجلی ان کی بینائی اُچک لے جائے گی، جب بھی ان کے لئے (ماحول میں) کچھ چمک ہوتی ہے تو اس میں چلنے لگتے ہیں اور جب ان پر اندھیرا چھا جاتا ہے تو کھڑے ہو جاتے ہیں، اور اگر اللہ چاہتا تو ان کی سماعت اور بصارت بالکل سلب کر لیتا، بیشک اللہ ہر چیز پر قادر ہے، |

[2:21] | Ya ayyuha alnnasuoAAbudoo rabbakumu allathee khalaqakum waallatheenamin qablikum laAAallakum tattaqoona
| يا أيها الناس اعبدوا ربكم الذي خلقكم والذين من قبلكم لعلكم تتقون
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُواْ رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | O ye people! Adore your Guardian-Lord, who created you and those who came before you, that ye may have the chance to learn righteousness;

[2:22] | Allathee jaAAala lakumu al-ardafirashan waalssamaa binaan waanzalamina alssama-i maan faakhraja bihi mina alththamaratirizqan lakum fala tajAAaloo lillahi andadanwaantum taAAlamoona
| الذي جعل لكم الأرض فراشا والسماء بناء وأنزل من السماء ماء فأخرج به من الثمرات رزقا لكم فلا تجعلوا لله أندادا وأنتم تعلمون
الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الأَرْضَ فِرَاشاً وَّالسَّمَاءَ بِنَاءً وَّأَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ رِزْقاً لَّكُمْ فَلاَ تَجْعَلُواْ لِلّهِ أَندَاداً وَّأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Who has made the earth your couch, and the heavens your canopy; and sent down rain from the heavens; and brought forth therewith Fruits for your sustenance; then set not up rivals unto Allah when ye know (the truth).

| Tahir ul Qadri | جس نے تمہارے لئے زمین کو فرش اور آسمان کو عمارت بنایا اور آسمانوں کی طرف سے پانی برسایا پھر اس کے ذریعے تمہارے کھانے کے لئے (انواع و اقسام کے) پھل پیدا کئے، پس تم اللہ کے لئے شریک نہ ٹھہراؤ حالانکہ تم (حقیقتِ حال) جانتے ہو، |

[2:23] | Wa-in kuntum fee raybin mimma nazzalnaAAala AAabdina fa/too bisooratin min mithlihi waodAAooshuhadaakum min dooni Allahi in kuntum sadiqeena
| وإن كنتم في ريب مما نزلنا على عبدنا فأتوا بسورة من مثله وادعوا شهداءكم من دون الله إن كنتم صادقين
وَإِنْ كُنتُمْ فِي رَيْبٍ مِّمَّا نَزَّلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِنَا فَأْتُواْ بِسُورَةٍ مِّن مِّثْلِهِ وَادْعُواْ شُهَدَاءَكُم مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | And if ye are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Sura like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers (If there are any) besides Allah, if your (doubts) are true.

| Tahir ul Qadri | اور اگر تم اس (کلام) کے بارے میں شک میں مبتلا ہو جو ہم نے اپنے (برگزیدہ) بندے پر نازل کیا ہے تو اس جیسی کوئی ایک سورت ہی بنا لاؤ، اور (اس کام کے لئے بیشک) اللہ کے سوا اپنے (سب) حمائتیوں کو بلا لو اگر تم (اپنے شک اور انکار میں) سچے ہو، |

[2:24] | Fa-in lam tafAAaloo walan tafAAaloo faittaqooalnnara allatee waqooduha alnnasuwaalhijaratu oAAiddat lilkafireena
| فإن لم تفعلوا ولن تفعلوا فاتقوا النار التي وقودها الناس والحجارة أعدت للكافرين
فَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلُواْ وَلَن تَفْعَلُواْ فَاتَّقُواْ النَّارَ الَّتِي وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَافِرِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | But if ye cannot- and of a surety ye cannot- then fear the Fire whose fuel is men and stones,- which is prepared for those who reject Faith.

| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر اگر تم ایسا نہ کر سکو اور ہرگز نہ کر سکو گے تو اس آگ سے بچو جس کا ایندھن آدمی (یعنی کافر) اور پتھر (یعنی ان کے بت) ہیں، جو کافروں کے لئے تیار کی گئی ہے، |

[2:25] | Wabashshiri allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo alssalihati anna lahum jannatintajree min tahtiha al-anharu kullamaruziqoo minha min thamaratin rizqan qaloo hathaallathee ruziqna min qablu waotoo bihi mutashabihanwalahum feeha azwajun mutahharatun wahumfeeha khalidoona
| وبشر الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات أن لهم جنات تجري من تحتها الأنهار كلما رزقوا منها من ثمرة رزقا قالوا هذا الذي رزقنا من قبل وأتوا به متشابها ولهم فيها أزواج مطهرة وهم فيها خالدون
وَبَشِّرِ الَّذِين آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ كُلَّمَا رُزِقُواْ مِنْهَا مِن ثَمَرَةٍ رِّزْقاً قَالُواْ هَـذَا الَّذِي رُزِقْنَا مِن قَبْلُ وَأُتُواْ بِهِ مُتَشَابِهاً وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا أَزْوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَّهُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness, that their portion is Gardens, beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits therefrom, they say: "Why, this is what we were fed with before," for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions pure (and holy); and they abide therein (for ever).

| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (اے حبیب!) آپ ان لوگوں کو خوشخبری سنا دیں جو ایمان لائے اور نیک عمل کرتے رہے کہ ان کے لئے (بہشت کے) باغات ہیں جن کے نیچے نہریں بہتی ہیں، جب انہیں ان باغات میں سے کوئی پھل کھانے کو دیا جائے گا تو (اس کی ظاہری صورت دیکھ کر) کہیں گے: یہ تو وہی پھل ہے جو ہمیں (دنیا میں) پہلے دیا گیا تھا، حالانکہ انہیں (صورت میں) ملتے جلتے پھل دیئے گئے ہوں گے، ان کے لئے جنت میں پاکیزہ بیویاں (بھی) ہوں گی اور وہ ان میں ہمیشہ رہیں گے، |
26.
[2:26] | Inna Allaha la yastahyeean yadriba mathalan ma baAAoodatan famafawqaha faamma allatheena amanoofayaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu min rabbihim waammaallatheena kafaroo fayaqooloona matha aradaAllahu bihatha mathalan yudillu bihikatheeran wayahdee bihi katheeran wama yudillu bihiilla alfasiqeena
| إن الله لا يستحيي أن يضرب مثلا ما بعوضة فما فوقها فأما الذين آمنوا فيعلمون أنه الحق من ربهم وأما الذين كفروا فيقولون ماذا أراد الله بهذا مثلا يضل به كثيرا ويهدي به كثيرا وما يضل به إلا الفاسقين
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَسْتَحْيِي أَن يَّضْرِبَ مَثَلاً مَّا بَعُوضَةً فَمَا فَوْقَهَا فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ فَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فَيَقُولُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَـذَا مَثَلاً يُضِلُّ بِهِ كَثِيراً وَّيَهْدِي بِهِ كَثِيراً وَمَا يُضِلُّ بِهِ إِلاَّ الْفَاسِقِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Allah disdains not to use the similitude of things, lowest as well as highest. Those who believe know that it is truth from their Lord; but those who reject Faith say: "What means Allah by this similitude?" By it He causes many to stray, and many He leads into the right path; but He causes not to stray, except those who forsake (the path),-

| Words | |إن - Indeed,| الله - Allah| لا - (is) not| يستحيي - ashamed| أن - to| يضرب - set forth| مثلا - an example| ما - (like) even| بعوضة - (of) a mosquito| فما - and (even) something| فوقها - above it.| فأما - Then as for| الذين - those who| آمنوا - believed,| فيعلمون - [thus] they will know| أنه - that it| الحق - (is) the truth| من - from| ربهم - their Lord.| وأما - And as for| الذين - those who| كفروا - disbelieved| فيقولون - [thus] they will say| ماذا - what| أراد - (did) intend| الله - Allah| بهذا - by this| مثلا - example?| يضل - He lets go astray| به - by it| كثيرا - many| ويهدي - and He guides| به - by it| كثيرا - many.| وما - And not| يضل - He lets go astray| به - by it| إلا - except| الفاسقين - the defiantly disobedient.| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | بیشک اللہ اس بات سے نہیں شرماتا کہ (سمجھانے کے لئے) کوئی بھی مثال بیان فرمائے (خواہ) مچھر کی ہو یا (ایسی چیز کی جو حقارت میں) اس سے بھی بڑھ کر ہو، تو جو لوگ ایمان لائے وہ خوب جانتے ہیں کہ یہ مثال ان کے رب کی طرف سے حق (کی نشاندہی) ہے، اور جنہوں نے کفر اختیار کیا وہ (اسے سن کر یہ) کہتے ہیں کہ ایسی تمثیل سے اللہ کو کیا سروکار؟ (اس طرح) اللہ ایک ہی بات کے ذریعے بہت سے لوگوں کو گمراہ ٹھہراتا ہے اور بہت سے لوگوں کو ہدایت دیتا ہے اور اس سے صرف انہی کو گمراہی میں ڈالتا ہے جو (پہلے ہی) نافرمان ہیں، |

[2:27] | Allatheena yanqudoona AAahdaAllahi min baAAdi meethaqihi wayaqtaAAoona maamara Allahu bihi an yoosala wayufsidoona fee al-ardiola-ika humu alkhasiroona
| الذين ينقضون عهد الله من بعد ميثاقه ويقطعون ما أمر الله به أن يوصل ويفسدون في الأرض أولئك هم الخاسرون
الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُّوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ أُولَـئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Those who break Allah's Covenant after it is ratified, and who sunder what Allah Has ordered to be joined, and do mischief on earth: These cause loss (only) to themselves.

| Tahir ul Qadri | (یہ نافرمان وہ لوگ ہیں) جو اللہ کے عہد کو اس سے پختہ کرنے کے بعد توڑتے ہیں، اور اس (تعلق) کو کاٹتے ہیں جس کو اللہ نے جوڑنے کا حکم دیا ہے اور زمین میں فساد بپا کرتے ہیں، یہی لوگ نقصان اٹھانے والے ہیں، |

[2:28] | Kayfa takfuroona biAllahiwakuntum amwatan faahyakum thumma yumeetukumthumma yuhyeekum thumma ilayhi turjaAAoona
| كيف تكفرون بالله وكنتم أمواتا فأحياكم ثم يميتكم ثم يحييكم ثم إليه ترجعون
كَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَكُنتُمْ أَمْوَاتاً فَأَحْيَاكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | How can ye reject the faith in Allah?- seeing that ye were without life, and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die, and will again bring you to life; and again to Him will ye return.

[2:29] | Huwa allathee khalaqa lakum mafee al-ardi jameeAAan thumma istawa ila alssama-ifasawwahunna sabAAa samawatin wahuwa bikullishay-in AAaleemun
| هو الذي خلق لكم ما في الأرض جميعا ثم استوى إلى السماء فسواهن سبع سماوات وهو بكل شيء عليم
هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ لَكُم مَّا فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعاً ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَسَوَّاهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ |

| Yusuf Ali | It is He Who hath created for you all things that are on earth; Moreover His design comprehended the heavens, for He gave order and perfection to the seven firmaments; and of all things He hath perfect knowledge.

[2:30] | Wa-ith qala rabbuka lilmala-ikatiinnee jaAAilun fee al-ardi khaleefatan qalooatajAAalu feeha man yufsidu feeha wayasfiku alddimaawanahnu nusabbihu bihamdika wanuqaddisu lakaqala innee aAAlamu ma la taAAlamoona
| وإذ قال ربك للملائكة إني جاعل في الأرض خليفة قالوا أتجعل فيها من يفسد فيها ويسفك الدماء ونحن نسبح بحمدك ونقدس لك قال إني أعلم ما لا تعلمون
وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً قَالُواْ أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُّفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاءَ وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said: "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said: "I know what ye know not."

| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (وہ وقت یاد کریں) جب آپ کے رب نے فرشتوں سے فرمایا کہ میں زمین میں اپنا نائب بنانے والا ہوں، انہوں نے عرض کیا: کیا تُو زمین میں کسی ایسے شخص کو (نائب) بنائے گا جو اس میں فساد انگیزی کرے گا اور خونریزی کرے گا؟ حالانکہ ہم تیری حمد کے ساتھ تسبیح کرتے رہتے ہیں اور (ہمہ وقت) پاکیزگی بیان کرتے ہیں، (اللہ نے) فرمایا: میں وہ کچھ جانتا ہوں جو تم نہیں جانتے، |
