| Yusuf Ali | In order that thou mayest admonish a people, whose fathers had received no admonition, and who therefore remain heedless (of the Signs of Allah).

لَقَدْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَى أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ |

| إنا جعلنا في أعناقهم أغلالا فهي إلى الأذقان فهم مقمحون
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِي أَعْنَاقِهِمْ أَغْلاَلاً فَهِيَ إِلَى الْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | We have put yokes round their necks right up to their chins, so that their heads are forced up (and they cannot see).

[36:9] | WajaAAalna min bayni aydeehim saddanwamin khalfihim saddan faaghshaynahum fahum la yubsiroona
| وجعلنا من بين أيديهم سدا ومن خلفهم سدا فأغشيناهم فهم لا يبصرون
وَجَعَلْنَا مِن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَاهُمْ فَهُمْ لاَ يُبْصِرُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | And We have put a bar in front of them and a bar behind them, and further, We have covered them up; so that they cannot see.
|

[36:10] | Wasawaon AAalayhim aanthartahumam lam tunthirhum la yu/minoona
| وسواء عليهم أأنذرتهم أم لم تنذرهم لا يؤمنون
وَسَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | The same is it to them whether thou admonish them or thou do not admonish them: they will not believe.

| إنما تنذر من اتبع الذكر وخشي الرحمن بالغيب فبشره بمغفرة وأجر كريم
إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الذِّكْرَ وَخَشِيَ الرَّحْمَن بِالْغَيْبِ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةٍ وَأَجْرٍ كَرِيمٍ |

| Yusuf Ali | Thou canst but admonish such a one as follows the Message and fears the (Lord) Most Gracious, unseen: give such a one, therefore, good tidings, of Forgiveness and a Reward most generous.

[36:12] | Inna nahnu nuhyeealmawta wanaktubu ma qaddamoo waatharahumwakulla shay-in ahsaynahu fee imamin mubeenin
| إنا نحن نحيي الموتى ونكتب ما قدموا وآثارهم وكل شيء أحصيناه في إمام مبين
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا وَآثَارَهُمْ وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أحْصَيْنَاهُ فِي إِمَامٍ مُبِينٍ |

| Yusuf Ali | Verily We shall give life to the dead, and We record that which they send before and that which they leave behind, and of all things have We taken account in a clear Book (of evidence).

[36:13] | Waidrib lahum mathalan as-habaalqaryati ith jaaha almursaloona
| واضرب لهم مثلا أصحاب القرية إذ جاءها المرسلون
وَاضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلاً أَصْحَابَ الْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَاءَهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Set forth to them, by way of a parable, the (story of) the Companions of the City. Behold!, there came messengers to it.

| إذ أرسلنا إليهم اثنين فكذبوهما فعززنا بثالث فقالوا إنا إليكم مرسلون
إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْهِمُ اثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | When We (first) sent to them two messengers, they rejected them: But We strengthened them with a third: they said, "Truly, we have been sent on a mission to you."

[36:15] | Qaloo ma antum illabasharun mithluna wama anzala alrrahmanumin shay-in in antum illa takthiboona
| قالوا ما أنتم إلا بشر مثلنا وما أنزل الرحمن من شيء إن أنتم إلا تكذبون
قَالُوا مَا أَنتُمْ إِلاَّ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَمَا أَنزَلَ الرَّحْمَن مِن شَيْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلاَّ تَكْذِبُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | The (people) said: "Ye are only men like ourselves; and (Allah) Most Gracious sends no sort of revelation: ye do nothing but lie."

| Words | |قالوا - They said,| ما - "Not| أنتم - you| إلا - (are) but| بشر - human beings| مثلنا - like us,| وما - and not| أنزل - has revealed| الرحمن - the Most Gracious| من - any| شيء - thing.| إن - Not| أنتم - you| إلا - (are) but| تكذبون - lying."| |

[36:16] | Qaloo rabbuna yaAAlamu innailaykum lamursaloona
| قالوا ربنا يعلم إنا إليكم لمرسلون
قَالُوا رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّا إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | They said: "Our Lord doth know that we have been sent on a mission to you:

| Words | |قالوا - They said,| ربنا - "Our Lord,| يعلم - knows| إنا - that we| إليكم - to you| لمرسلون - (are) surely Messengers,| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | (پیغمبروں نے) کہا: ہمارا رب جانتا ہے کہ ہم یقیناً تمہاری طرف بھیجے گئے ہیں، |

[36:17] | Wama AAalayna illaalbalaghu almubeenu
| وما علينا إلا البلاغ المبين
وَمَا عَلَيْنَا إِلاَّ الْبَلاَغُ الْمُبِينُ |

| Yusuf Ali | "And our duty is only to proclaim the clear Message."

[36:18] | Qaloo inna tatayyarnabikum la-in lam tantahoo lanarjumannakum walayamassannakum minnaAAathabun aleemun
| قالوا إنا تطيرنا بكم لئن لم تنتهوا لنرجمنكم وليمسنكم منا عذاب أليم
قَالُوا إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ |

| Yusuf Ali | The (people) said: "for us, we augur an evil omen from you: if ye desist not, we will certainly stone you. And a grievous punishment indeed will be inflicted on you by us."

| Words | |قالوا - They said,| إنا - "Indeed, we| تطيرنا - [we] see an evil omen| بكم - from you.| لئن - If| لم - not| تنتهوا - you desist,| لنرجمنكم - surely, we will stone you,| وليمسنكم - and surely will touch you| منا - from us| عذاب - a punishment| أليم - painful."| |
| Tahir ul Qadri | (بستی والوں نے) کہا: ہمیں تم سے نحوست پہنچی ہے اگر تم واقعی باز نہ آئے تو ہم تمہیں یقیناً سنگ سار کر دیں گے اور ہماری طرف سے تمہیں ضرور دردناک عذاب پہنچے گا، |

[36:19] | Qaloo ta-irukum maAAakum a-in thukkirtumbal antum qawmun musrifoona
| قالوا طائركم معكم أئن ذكرتم بل أنتم قوم مسرفون
قَالُوا طَائِرُكُمْ مَّعَكُمْ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | They said: "Your evil omens are with yourselves: (deem ye this an evil omen). If ye are admonished? Nay, but ye are a people transgressing all bounds!"

| Words | |قالوا - They said,| طائركم - "Your evil omen| معكم - (be) with you!| أئن - Is it because| ذكرتم - you are admonished?| بل - Nay,| أنتم - you| قوم - (are) a people| مسرفون - transgressing."| |

[36:20] | Wajaa min aqsa almadeenatirajulun yasAAa qala ya qawmi ittabiAAooalmursaleena
| وجاء من أقصى المدينة رجل يسعى قال يا قوم اتبعوا المرسلين
وَجَاءَ مِنْ أَقْصَى الْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌ يَسْعَى قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اتَّبِعُوا الْمُرْسَلِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | Then there came running, from the farthest part of the City, a man, saying, "O my people! Obey the messengers:

[36:21] | IttabiAAoo man la yas-alukum ajranwahum muhtadoona
| اتبعوا من لا يسألكم أجرا وهم مهتدون
اتَّبِعُوا مَن لاَّ يَسْأَلُكُمْ أَجْرًا وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | "Obey those who ask no reward of you (for themselves), and who have themselves received Guidance.
|
| Words | |اتبعوا - Follow| من - (those) who| لا - (do) not| يسألكم - ask (of) you| أجرا - any payment,| وهم - and they| مهتدون - (are) rightly guided.| |

[36:22] | Wama liya la aAAbudu allatheefataranee wa-ilayhi turjaAAoona
| وما لي لا أعبد الذي فطرني وإليه ترجعون
وَمَا لِي لاَ أَعْبُدُ الَّذِي فَطَرَنِي وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | "It would not be reasonable in me if I did not serve Him Who created me, and to Whom ye shall (all) be brought back.
|
| Words | |وما - And what| لي - (is) for me| لا - (that) not| أعبد - I worship| الذي - the One Who| فطرني - created me| وإليه - and to Whom| ترجعون - you will be returned?| |

[36:23] | Aattakhithu min doonihi alihatanin yuridni alrrahmanu bidurrin la tughniAAannee shafaAAatuhum shay-an wala yunqithooni
| أأتخذ من دونه آلهة إن يردن الرحمن بضر لا تغن عني شفاعتهم شيئا ولا ينقذون
أَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِ آلِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ الرَّحْمَن بِضُرٍّ لاَّ تُغْنِ عَنِّي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا وَلاَ يُنقِذُونِ |

| Yusuf Ali | "Shall I take (other) gods besides Him? If (Allah) Most Gracious should intend some adversity for me, of no use whatever will be their intercession for me, nor can they deliver me.

| Tahir ul Qadri | کیا میں اس (اللہ) کو چھوڑ کر ایسے معبود بنا لوں کہ اگر خدائے رحمان مجھے کوئی تکلیف پہنچانا چاہے تو نہ مجھے اُن کی سفارش کچھ نفع پہنچا سکے اور نہ وہ مجھے چھڑا ہی سکیں، |

[36:24] | Innee ithan lafee dalalinmubeenin
| إني إذا لفي ضلال مبين
إِنِّي إِذًا لَّفِي ضَلاَلٍ مُّبِينٍ |

| Yusuf Ali | "I would indeed, if I were to do so, be in manifest Error.

إِنِّي آمَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَاسْمَعُونِ |

| قيل ادخل الجنة قال يا ليت قومي يعلمون
قِيلَ ادْخُلِ الْجَنَّةَ قَالَ يَا لَيْتَ قَوْمِي يَعْلَمُونَ |

| Yusuf Ali | It was said: "Enter thou the Garden." He said: "Ah me! Would that my People knew (what I know)!-

[36:27] | Bima ghafara lee rabbee wajaAAalaneemina almukrameena
| بما غفر لي ربي وجعلني من المكرمين
بِمَا غَفَرَ لِي رَبِّي وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ الْمُكْرَمِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | "For that my Lord has granted me Forgiveness and has enrolled me among those held in honour!"

| Words | |بما - Of how| غفر - has forgiven| لي - me| ربي - my Lord| وجعلني - and placed me| من - among| المكرمين - the honored ones."| |

| وما أنزلنا على قومه من بعده من جند من السماء وما كنا منزلين
وَمَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى قَوْمِهِ مِن بَعْدِهِ مِنْ جُندٍ مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنْزِلِينَ |

| Yusuf Ali | And We sent not down against his People, after him, any hosts from heaven, nor was it needful for Us so to do.

يَا حَسْرَةً عَلَى الْعِبَادِ مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلاَّ كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِؤُون |
